What is “adapted milk” or “nutritious milk”

Milupa Baby Cereals: «Starter», «From 6 months» ,«From 8 months» still contain plenty of milk ingredients.

Milupa Baby Cereals «Starter», «From 6 months» ,«From 8 months» contain «adapted milk» which is a nutritionally fortified milk specially designed to meet the nutritional needs of babies under one year of age.

Milupa Baby Cereals «From 12 months» contain “nutritious milk” which is a milk formulated for children one year of age and more.

Milupa Baby Cereals can still be prepared with water only. No milk or infant formula needs to be added.

Milupa Baby Cereals are enriched with vitamins and minerals, as authorized by Health Canada and are fully adapted to babies’ needs. They are comparable to other baby cereals on the market.

Can I put Milupa cereals in my baby’s bottle ?

It is not recommended to add cereals to a baby’s bottle.

Oil sources: vegetable or animal

Milupa uses only vegetable oils, and not animal oil or animal fat. Even monoglycerides are from a vegetable source. As indicated on the side of Milupa’s baby cereal boxes, the product is “Suitable for lacto-ovo-vegetarians”. In other words, it is suitable for individuals who eat only plant foods, dairy products, egg products and their derivatives.

Do Milupa baby cereals contain hydeogenated oils ?

No.

Transfat

No.

Are there any animal fats or by-products in Milupa baby cereals ?

Milupa cereals contain milk ingredients and may contain milk fat from the milk ingredients but do not contain any other added animal fat or animal by-product.

Whey powder

Milupa Baby Cereals contain whey. Whey is the left over residue from cow’s milk after the removal of casein (a milk protein) and most of the milk’s fat.

Whey is suitable for lacto-ovo-vegetarians who eat plant foods as well as milk and egg products, but not suitable for vegans who do not consume any animal products at all.

What is the source of demineralised whey powder?

The demineralised whey powder used in the manufacturing of Milupa Baby Cereals comes from cow’s milk protein.

With it’s low mineral content, demineralised whey powder is suitable for babies.

How is the whey dried to become whey powder ?

Water is removed by spray drying.

Are any genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) used in the Milupa baby cereals ?

No, Milupa products do not contain any GMO’s.

What kind of flours are in the Milupa baby cereals ?

Depending on the product, Miljpa Baby Cereals contain different kinds of flours: rice, oat, barley, wheat, rye, corn or millet flour.

Maltodextrin-Demineralised whey powder-Iron powder-Ascorbic acid

Maltodextrin is hydrolyzed (broken down) corn starch. It replaces sugar and only has only 1/3 of the sweetness of sugar. It is tolerated very well by babies, even in cases of illness.

Demineralised whey powder is milk protein from which the minerals are removed in order to make it suitable for infants.

Milupa Baby Cereals are enriched with ferric pyrophosphate (iron powder). Iron is a factor in red bood cell formation and in normal growth and development.

Ascorbic acid is an antioxidant used as a preservative.

What is Health Canada’s recommended dietary allowance for iron?

  • 0-6 months = 0.27 mg per day
  • 7-12 months = 11 mg per day

One 28g serving of Milupa «Starter Cereal» or «From 6 months» Baby Cereals provides an average of 5.6 mg of iron.

One 28 g serving of Milupa «From 8 months» Baby Cereals provides an average of 6.2 mg of iron.

Does the vanilla extract contain alcohol ?

No.

Are Milupa baby cereals made with organically farmed ingredients ?

No.

Allergies to peanuts or coconut ?

Milupa Baby Cereals are suitable for children allergic to peanuts. However, they are not suitable for children allergic to coconut because some of our products contain coconut oil.

Allergies or intolerance to cow's milk protein and lactose

Our Milupa cereals in Canada are all milk-based cereals. They contain adapted milk which is based on skim milk powder with fortified vitamins and minerals. Therefore all these milk cereals will contain cow’s milk protein and lactose.

If a child has a cow’s milk protein allergy, then they need to exclude all traces of cow’s milk protein and therefore a milk cereal is not appropriate. In these cases only a plain cereal (which is milk free) should be used.

If a child has lactose intolerance, then they are advised to limit the amount of lactose in their diet. The extent of the lactose restriction will depend on the severity of the intolerance and doctor’s advice. In most cases, individuals with lactose intolerance can still manage small amounts of lactose if spread across the day (<10g/day). In these situations, then 1-2 bowls of Milupa milk based cereal may still be appropriate (2.5g lactose/portion). If the child needs to restrict all sources of lactose, then a milk cereal is not appropriate. In these cases only a plain cereal (which is milk free) should be used.

From what countries do Milupa baby cereals ingredients come from ?

Ingredients used in the Milupa Baby Cereals come from different countries around the world. We go to great effort to find quality ingredients.

Where are Milupa baby cereals made ?

Milupa cereals are made in Opole (Poland) by Nutricia Zaklady Produkcyjne Sp. Z.o.o. ul Marka z. Jemielnicy 1, 45-952 Opole-Poland.

Expiry date

We do not recommend usage of the product after the expiry date. The expiry date is printed on the top flap of each Milupa cereal box.

Read the expiration date as follows: YEAR, MONTH, DAY printed in BLACK.

For example, if you read 11 OC 20, this means the product will expire October 20, 2011.

The microbiological and physical stability of the product might be altered past the expiration date. Furthermore, the nutritional value of the product may no longer correspond to the nutritional values declared on the package.

The lot number which immediately follows the expiry date allows for product tracing.

Storage of Milupa baby cereals

Store all unopened and opened Milupa boxes in a cool dry place. It is not recommended to store in the refrigerator or the freezer.

For proper storage, after each serving make sure you tightly close the foil pouch (for example you can use a clip if available).

Opened Milupa boxes should be discarded after 3-4 weeks.

Please note that freezing of the cereal will not prolong the expiration date.

Why do the boxed indicate "Use content within 3-4 Weeks after opening” ?

Milupa Baby Cereals should not be used later than 3-4 weeks after opening the package because they contain dried milk products. It is recommended to follow the instructions on the label to ensure the product always meets Milupa’s quality standards.

Shipping to the U.S.

Milupa Baby Cereals cannot be purchased in or shipped to the U.S.A.
